Hats Off!

By popular vote, Wrightberry's lustrous cake of two ornate shoes and a cloche won first place; Pastry Pieces' more funky chocolate and sugar work was awarded second place. The pirate hat is chocolate, party hats are blown sugar that was then pressed into the cone shape and decorated with pulled sugar. The tiara and wand are pulled sugar, and the top hat is the actual cake!

Our second cake was the two bonnets on a stand; the baby bonnet is made of modeling chocolate, the straw hat is gum paste.

Cascade Aids Benefit

Well, this event was a month ago, but it was so much fun. Horton came with me, keeping a watchful eye on the Mayor of Whoville. Many in the crowd had never seen anyone pulling sugar before.
